The model shows the first purpose built tyre fitting garage, built in England by the innovative Michelin brothers. At this time there was a great upsurge of interest in the new fashion for motoring and Michelin were very keen to catch a major part of the tyre market. Their new building designed by chief engineer, Franscios Espinasse, was a great hit with the public. The character of Bibendum dominates the garage. The bon viveur and gastronomic hero is shown on all three sides. This is a wonderful model for all those who love motoring or indeed eating. The Garage was saved and renovated by the designer Sir Terence Conran in the 1980's. This model is made using British gypsum plaster which allows highly exquisite detail. Additional detail is made using thin metal leaf. Dimensions: W 20cm (8") H 20cm (8") D 14cm (5.5"). |
