The Glasgow School of Art is the masterwork of the architect Charles Rennie Mackintosh. The West Library Tower is part of the main school and is startlingly modern despite being designed at the turn of the 20th century. In his design Charles Rennie Mackintosh captures Scotland's ancient past as well as predicting forms of the future. The building is a celebrated landmark building of international importance, far ahead of its time and of great influence on the development of modern architecture. The tower contains the lecture theatre below and the double-floored library above. It overlooks Glasgow's famous Sauchiehall Street. The building shows many characteristics of the Art Nouveau style, one that spread throughout Europe and influenced many American architects. This model is made using British gypsum plaster which allows highly exquisite detail. Additional detail is made using thin metal leaf. Dimensions: W 12.75cm (5") H 28cm (11") D 11.5cm (4.5"). |
