Welcome
to The Allerdale Court Hotel from your hosts,
John and Kay Carlin.
The Allerdale Court Hotel, is a 21 Bedroomed hotel, in the market town of Cockermouth on the edge of the Lake District National Park. The hotel is owned and run by John and Kay Carlin who have been here for nearly five years. John and Kay have spent that time doing room by room refurbishment. This includes uncovering a beautiful hidden fire place in Room 7, and discovering a superb wooden wall that was once in one of the bedrooms hidden behind plaster - this wall has been moved to the lounge bar so that all the guests in the hotel may enjoy its splendour.
The building of the Allerdale Court Hotel is remarkably unchanged from the 17th century and is reputed to be the home of Fletcher Christian. It was converted to a hotel some 30 years ago.

Before becoming a hotel the building was four separate shops including an antique shop and a butchers shop. Your hosts, John and Kay, met when both were working at the Royal Oak Hotel in Keswick in the mid 70's. From Keswick they both went to work in Leeds and then decided to go to the Seychelles where John ran the Coral Strand Hotel for five years followed by two years in Kenya at The Serena Beach Hotel.
After their time in Kenya John and Kay moved to The Gambia where John ran the Atlantic Hotel for Copthorne Hotels and The Gambia Government. A short spell in Tenerife preceded their decision to buy their own Hotel back in The Lake District.
After careful study they found The Allerdale Court Hotel in Cockermouth. Jake, their eldest son whilst studying for his BA in hospitality at Blackpool, has been appointed as a trainee manager by Aramark Limited, a world leader in management services. This position runs along side his college course to allow greater exposure to the industry whilst studying. Charlie, their other son, is a weekly boarder at St Bees School, who's future is definitely in computers and technology.
